ARPILLERAS.

Originated in Chile, were made by female relatives of the political prisoners during the Pinochet regime.

They were used to camouflage secret messages about the fate of political prisoners to their relatives. Using Arpilleras (made of thread and scraps of cloth) the women brought international awareness about torture, murder and the disappearance of their love ones under Pinochet dictatorship.

The Association of Relatives of the Disappeared in Chile began to make  Arpilleras to tell stories and financially support their families.
